Our History

Founded in 1998 by Andrew Fraser Greenwood (Group MD) and Peter Scott (Chairman) scottfraser was originally conceived as a firm of property consultants acting on behalf of UK and overseas clients to acquire land and property suitable for investment. Over time the company has evolved and grown organically through its dedicated workforce who are passionate about property and customer service.

Andrew says “When offered the chance of an extra-curricular activity at school, I had no hesitation in taking a six-week course entitled “How to buy a house.” I knew at once that my future career should be in property.”

In the 1980s and 1990s Andrew held senior positions in two of the leading property companies in Oxford and specialised in residential lettings and property management as well as property acquisitions for investment clients. Subsequently he added property development to his wealth of knowledge and together with Peter Scott started to build properties which were suitable for letting and attracted landlords as buy-to-let investments. This led ultimately to the formation of the company.

Anyone who knows Andrew will testify that his enthusiasm for property is as great as ever. He has a loyal following of investment and development clients, many of whom are Oxford or Cambridge alumni. Over the years these clients have built up a portfolio of quality investment properties in the knowledge that they can safely leave the acquisition, refurbishment / furnishing, lettings and property management to scottfraser and sit back and watch their investment grow.

In 1998 Andrew was joined at the centrally located Beaumont Street offices by Lucy Taylor MRICS (Associate Director) to expand the acquisition and lettings operation. In 2000 the company appointed Michael Joubert (Associate Director) and opened its first dedicated lettings office in North Parade Avenue in prestigious central north Oxford. In 2001 the portfolio had grown sufficiently to open a second office in East Oxford. In 2003 scottfraser outgrew the North Parade Avenue office and moved to larger more prominent offices on Banbury Road in Summertown.

With the success at East Oxford and Summertown scottfraser opened its third office within the award-winning building, Portus House, in Headington in 2005, thus providing a comprehensive Lettings and Property Management service throughout the City of Oxford and surrounding villages, managing a portfolio in excess of 700 properties with over 25 dedicated team members.

In 2005 the company diversified into Residential Sales and appointed David Blythman, with over thirty years of estate agency experience, as Managing Director to spearhead Scott Fraser (Estate Agents) Ltd., promoting interesting and quality homes in key locations throughout the county under the banner of "scottfraser city and village living". David started his career in estate agency at the age of twenty, learning his craft at two professional practices in London and becoming a partner of one business by the age of twenty four. “The tough lessons of the early nineties and the experience I have gathered over the last thirty years have allowed me to create an Estate Agency proud of its ability to provide the highest quality of service and marketing and unafraid to do things differently from the competition. It has also given me the knowledge to ensure we survive and indeed thrive through difficult trading conditions.”

The significant success and growth of the sales office have come from both cutting edge marketing and referrals from satisfied clients. Not only has this altered the focus of scottfraser, but it strengthens their position as one of the leading property companies in Oxford.

To celebrate 10 years in business in Oxford, scottfraser was delighted to be able to relocate the Beaumont Street Head Office to a brand new purpose built complex in Headington. The new Head Office comprises nine residential flats and three commercial offices located in central Headington as well as encompassing the Property Investment department.

In 2010 our latest venture came to fruition with the appointment of Chris Rowntree (Sales Director) to head our new Grade II listed offices in Witney, thus expanding our operations further into West Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds. “Having lived with my wife and daughter for nearly twenty years and with a lifetime of experience trading in the Cotswolds I was thrilled to be able to join such an established and respected company especially with such stunning premises to trade from.”
